Library & Information Science Department

The Department of Library and Information Science (LIS), one of the most sought-after departments in the college, was established in 2009. Our college is the first college under Punjabi university, Patiala to start Bachelor of Library and Information Science at the college level. The main objective of the department is to impart quality education in LIS to rural and economically weaker students and to provide a platform to the students to exhibit their talent and creativity. The Department of LIS provides excellent teaching and learning environment with its focus on practical training. Our department encourages self-evaluation, personality development and guides the students to strive towards perfection and competence. Our main focus is to train the students for job opportunities and to create their interest to pursue higher education in LIS. Innovative teaching methods are being adopted by the faculty. E-resources are being used through NLIST and DELNET. The teachers provide study material through e-PG-Pathshala. Besides this, e-journals and e-books are browsed through DOAJ and DOAB. Modern teaching aids are used like PPTs, LMS- Learning Management System, Swayam etc. Class tests and assignments, remedial classes and group discussions are regularly held to improve the performance of students. The central library provides three months training to 20 students (approx.) every year. The students have added to the prestige of the department by securing university ranks and several students have qualified UGC-NET.
